Easter Egg Hiding Places Spring Up in Mid Cheshire

As half term begins, so do the eggciting Easter Egg Hunts enjoyed by kids and adults alike in Cheshire, but our ever growing potholes are not a suitable hiding place.

A supposed benefit of this Conservative government cancelling HS2 is the redistribution of funding to local authorities to fix the nation's potholes. Cheshire West & Chester Council have been allocated £2.5 million to spend over the next two years with a list of planned works for Northwich and Winsford available here. Meanwhile, in Cheshire East, the cancellation of HS2 should have given the green light to allow Cheshire East to begin construction of the Middlewich bypass, yet central Government says this is now under review.

Mid Cheshire’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Jack Price-Harbach, expresses his frustrations with the state of our county’s roads:

"Why should we, as Mid Cheshire residents have to tolerate roads which are in an alleged state of "managed decline?", Why should the residents of Middlewich have to tolerate further congestion on our roads, thanks to our Government's short sighted decision to cancel HS2? Why should the already struggling Cheshire East Council have to cover the shortfall caused by delays to the Middlewich bypass project, when the freeing up of HS2 spending should have allowed for further investment?

From my personal experience, I use Chester Road in Hartford and Sandiway to take my wife and children to work and nursery respectively. I have noted partial resurfacing near the Shell Garage crossroads yet stretches of Chester Road contain so many potholes, drivers are having to concentrate on avoiding them rather than looking ahead of the road properly."

Ahead of the next General Election, Jack will continue to campaign for more resources and funding to be devolved to local Government to rid Cheshire of this plague of potholes. As council budgets are squeezed ever more tightly, the tangible outcomes of how councils spend their money leave local residents infuriated.
